Cat Richardson’s work investigates spiritual identity through contemplation of wonder and creation of sacred objects. Their practice is split between painting and sculpture. It is based in ritual and functions as a way to revel and be glad in moments of wonder.
They graduated from Indiana University with a BFA in Painting. They have exhibited at the Grunwald Gallery and Tangent Gallery and the IFELL gallery in Bloomington, Indiana and at the Midwest Regional at ArtLink in Fort Wayne, Indiana. They acted as the president of their cohort for three semesters during their time in the painting program. As the president, they organized a group show for their cohort, spearheaded fundraising opportunities, collected and sold donated paintings from members of the cohort, organized community building events, and coordinated a group trip to visit the Saint Louis art museum. They also created and sold jewelry independently of their painting practice.
They were a recipient of the National Merit Scholarship, Provost Scholarship, and Henry Egel Scholarship as well as receiving Honors Distinction, Acknowledgement of Academic Excellence, and inclusion on the Executive Deans list for all of their years at University. They worked at the Scenic Design Studio for two years, helping to construct the sets for theatre productions and gained experience in woodworking, props creation, and set painting, as well as professional experience.
